NEW DELHI: The Karnataka Department of School Education and Literacy has transferred a teacher for allegedly asking two Muslim students at a government school in Karnataka to “go to Pakistan”, the Indian Express reported. According to the report by Hindustan Times, A Nazrullah, the president of the minority section of the Janata Dal Secular, has filed a complaint with the education department. “We were shocked after the children told us about the incident. We filed a complaint with the Deputy Director of Public Instruction, and the department took action against the teacher,” Nazrullah said.
This occurs days after a video of a Muslim student being slapped by his classmates in Uttar Pradesh on the orders of a teacher went viral. Tripta Tyagi, the teacher, was also seen making offensive comments about the community, triggered outrage. On the basis of the boy's family's allegation, Tyagi has been charged under Indian Penal Code sections 323 (penalty for willingly causing harm) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach to the peace).
Tyagi has denied the allegation. In her defence, she claimed that the tape had been tampered to give the situation a community flavour. However, she acknowledged that the student slapped by his classmates was wrong.
