Goa University, French Institute to train French language teachers

The training will focus on French teaching methodologies for seventy South Asian French language teachers.

NEW DELHI: The French Institute in India and Goa University will organise international training for teachers of French 2023, called, “Université pédagogique régionale - Inde 2023”.

Approximately 70 French teachers from India and neighbouring countries will attend the training event.

The event is scheduled to take place from May 22 to May 26. The opening ceremony of the training programme took place today, May 22. Consul general of France in Mumbai, Jean-Marc Séré-Charlet, and the vice-chancellor of Goa University, Harilal B. Menon attended the opening ceremony. Sere-Charlet said that “the best way to emulate learners is to have very well-trained French language teachers in order to open the door to the richness of Francophone culture in all the 5 continents”.

All participants will undertake training of 30 hours during this week. The training session is divided into two 15-hour modules and the training aims to focus on the teaching methodologies in French teaching.

Four French and Indian trainers will conduct the training programme. The statement says the training will involve “introducing the Francophone world in French language classes, using phonetics to improve pronunciation, developing a systematic and efficient lesson plan adapted to Indian language class, teaching grammar in an action-oriented approach, developing learners' oral skills, and using assessment to improve the learning process”.

Goa University VC Menon said: “Our International French Teachers training programme equips educators with the tools they need to create an immersive and engaging learning environment that prepares students for success in a future diverse and interconnected world,”

The international training for teachers of French was first organised in 2015, and this year the two institutes are organising the eighth edition of the programme.
