NEW DELHI, OCTOBER 26: Kerala Governor P. Sathasivam has appointed Prof V P Mahadevan Pillai as the Kerala University vice-chancellor. Sathasivam in his capacity as the Chancellor of Universities in the state has appointed Pillai for a period of four years.
Prof Pillai will succeed Prof P.K. Radhakrishnan who retired in February this year. Prof Pillai was among the three names shortlisted by the search committee. The appointment was made on the basis of the names suggested by the search committee comprising of R. C. Kuhad, Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Haryana, former chief secretary Paul Antony, State Planning Board vice-chairman V. K. Ramachandran.
He is currently serving as the head of the Department of Optoelectronics in KU.
Prof Pillai has over a decade of experience in teaching, research and guidance at the university. He has also held the position of the chairman of the Board of Studies (Optoelectronics) at the varsity.
He has served as a member of the Board of Studies in other universities in the state like CUSAT, Kochi; Alagappa University, Periyar University. Prof Pillai has also served as the member of the academic council, Senate of the KU.
