Govt extends HECI suggestions deadline till July 20

NEW DELHI, JULY 6: The Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has extended the deadline till July 20, for receiving feedback and suggestions on the draft Bill to establish Higher Education Commission for India (HECI). Last week, the Ministry announced to replace the University Grants Commission (UGC) with HECI and invited suggestion from stakeholders till July 7.  

The Government has announced to extend the deadline following representations from various quarters. The Union Minister of HRD Prakash Javadekar during a press conference announced about the deadline extension.

The new body will take over the role of the UGC and as per the draft placed in the public domain will solely focus on academic matters, the funding will go directly under the purview of Ministry.

MHRD issuing a statement over apprehensions on the financial role getting under government clarified that the Government is keen to ensure that the grant-giving process shall be purely merit-based, online and objective that assures both transparency and efficiency with the least human interface.
