Gujarat schools reopen today after summer vacation; 2 lakh students switch to government schools

Gujarat: Around 1.15 crore students will be rejoining the over 54,000 schools today after the 35-day long summer vacation. The schools were closed from May 9 to June 12.
NEW DELHI: Gujarat minister of state primary, secondary and adult education, higher education Praful Pansheriya said that all government and private schools in the state are going to be reopened today. The primary, higher secondary school students are going to attend the new academic year 2024-25 after a 35-day long summer vacation this year.
The Gujarat school summer vacation was extended till June 12 due to the extreme heatwave experienced by the northern states of India. Schools were closed from May 9 to June 12 in the state this year.
MoS Praful Pansheriya told the ANI today: “"Today, primary and higher secondary, both private and government schools are going to be reopened in Gujarat. My greetings to all the students.”
He also informed that about two lakh students have enrolled in government schools from private schools. He attributed the increased in enrolment in Gujarat government schools to “smart class, infrastructure development and the hard work of the teachers”
As per reports, more than 1.15 crore students will be rejoining the over 54,000 schools today after the summer vacation. In this regard, the state government has announced plans to hold Shala Pravesh Utsav across all schools on June 27, 28, and 29.
The minister told the Indian Express recently that nearly 600-700 schools have been closed in the state for not having building use clearances (BUCs) and fire NoCs. The steps to seal these schools were taken after a massive fire in Rajkot, which killed children among 27.
