NEW DELHI: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today had an extensive consultation on taking further steps for the formulation of Higher Education Commission of India (HECI). During the meeting, Pradhan said that HECI should ensure employability, job creation and global outlook. It should ensure global academic standards and provide more academic autonomy to the higher education institutions, he added.

“Held extensive consultations with senior officials of EduMinOfIndia on taking further steps for the formulation of Higher Education Commission of India (HECI). This important recommendation of NEP 2020 will be one of the many steps towards decolonization of our education system,” Pradhan said in a tweet.

“HECI will provide more academic autonomy to the higher education institutions while ensuring global academic standards for all HEIs. HECI can be an overarching umbrella for guidance of all the HEIs of the country with main foucs on Institutional governance,” he added.

Pradhan said that this important recommendation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 will be one of the many steps in the direction of decolonization of the education system of the country.

University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman professor M Jagadesh Kumar; Anita Karwal, secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy were University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman professor M Jagadesh Kumar; Anita Karwal, secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy; Delhi University vice-chancellor Yogesh Singh; Minister of State for education Annapurna Devi; National Testing Agency chairman Vineet Joshi were among the people who attended the meeting.

Meanwhile, Pradhan attended the three-day Utkarsh Mahotsav at the Central Sanskrit University today. Addressing the event, the education minister said that Sanskrit education will create more employment opportunities for students.
