"It was thought fit that 12th board examinations were a relatively more important milestone in the education of the students as their future careers depend upon the same as compared to the 10th standard examination," the affidavit said, according to PTI.
"Usually, unlike 10th standard, after 12th standard the path of the students' overall career is decided," the affidavit said, adding that students in 12th standard are "more matured, independent, socially aware and bodily and mentally fit than those in Class X. It is like comparing apples with cheese only because both are edible.”
The affidavit by the government was in response to a petition filed by a professor, Dhananjay Kulkarni. The PIL challenges the decision of the state government to cancel SSC exams this year. Later, the Bombay High Court directed the state government to file an affidavit on the plea. The court also asked for an explanation on why the government is conducting the Maharashtra HSC board exam 2021.
Earlier, the Maharashtra SSC exam 2021 was cancelled which was scheduled to be conducted from April 29 to May 20, 2021. And, HSC board exam 2021 was to be conducted from April 23 to May 21, 2021. However, the exams have been postponed now due to COVID-19. Last week, the state government announced the evaluation criteria for Maharashtra SSC exams 2021 and said that the result of SSC will be declared on the basis of internal assessment. On the other hand, students are demanding the cancellation of the HSC 2021 exam. The board, however, has not yet announced to cancel the 12th HSC board exam 2021.
