Hyderabad University's management faculty receives Rs 1 crore grant from government

NEW DELHI: The management faculty from the University of Hyderabad (UoH) receives a Rs 1 crore competitive research grant close to Rs 1 crore from the ministry of electronics and information technology (IT).

The grant was given to Hyderabad University, school of management studies, Vijaya B Marisetty and Varsha Mamidi to help in developing a blockchain platform with a robo-advising facility for on-boarding of around 1 million farmers across India in the pilot phase. The project will run for 2 years and will later be scaled up according to the results.

This platform will enable farm producing organisation to engage with lenders, input suppliers and output customers. The project's blockchain technology provides security and transparency and aims to achieve more value chain benefits and a democratic wealth distribution among farmers.

The same faculty earlier received blockchain use case grants through the Institution of Eminence (IoE) for developing cold chain logistics platforms for the pharma industry in collaboration Dr Reddy's Laboratories. They have also won an international blockchain hackathon in Dubai and blockchain hackathon run by National Payment Corporation of India.

Expressing happiness at the research grant secured, UoH, vice-chancellor, B J Rao, said: “We are a multidisciplinary university, and as such, we have to perform exceedingly well in all disciplines, and I am happy that a grant of this magnitude involving around 1 million farmers, will do wonders for the stature of University of Hyderabad. I congratulate Marisetty and Mamidi and wish them the very best in successful completion of this project and later scaling it up to pan-India level.”
