NEW DELHI: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has signed an agreement with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for the translation of the university's MBA courses into Hindi and other Indian languages. The initiative has been taken by IGNOU with the goal of providing higher education in regional languages.
Professor Nageshwar Rao, Vice-Chancellor, IGNOU, said, "Multilingual education is a necessity to transform the education sector in India under the New Education Policy. IGNOU has taken the initiative to translate MBA courses into different Indian languages, including Hindi, Telugu, Odia, Tamil, Bengali, and Marathi, among others in collaboration with AICTE. This will help to increase the accessibility of MBA courses to students who are more comfortable learning in their native language. The translation of MBA courses into Indian languages will also help to bridge the language gap that often exists among students from different parts of India. "
Professor T G Sitharam, Chairman, AICTE, said, "As part of the MOU, AICTE and IGNOU will work together to provide content of the MBA courses in 12 Indian Languages (Hindi, Odia, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Punjabi, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Malayalam, Urdu & Assamese). This will benefit millions of Indian students who want to study MBA in Indian languages. AICTE will work with IGNOU to ensure that the defined management terms become part of the textbooks being produced for MBA education in various Indian languages. We believe this is a step towards inclusion and will open the doors for many students living in remote areas to pursue MBA in their mother tongue. It will also help students from non-English speaking backgrounds to pursue MBA programs and acquire the knowledge and skills required to succeed in the business world.”
As per Professor MS Senam Raju, Director, School of Management Studies (SOMS), IGNOU, the efforts in translating MBA courses in India have made quality education more accessible and inclusive and have helped to promote economic growth and development by producing skilled business professionals.
A brief detail of AICTE intervention in technical books in different Indian languages and the role of AICTE in the agreement was presented by Dr Amit Kumar Srivastava, Director, Faculty Development Cell, AICTE. He emphasized the tremendous potential of the AICTE e KUMBH PORTAL to provide educational content in the Indian languages.
