NEW DELHI: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has announced two new certificate courses on Environment Impact Assessment for Environmental Health and Environmental and Occupational Hazards through SWAYAM, Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) platform of the Government of India.
Both the courses will be of 12 weeks duration, which will add to around 105 courses that are already being taught through SWAYAM.
The course on Environmental and Occupational Hazard discusses natural hazards and disasters like earthquakes, floods, landslides that adversely affects the people either by damaging the property or through loss of life. The course also covers geological hazards, weather-related hazards or coastal hazards, among other hazards. The course discusses Occupational Hazards as well. It covers hazards posed by specific occupations such as mining and construction, agriculture and allied sectors, hospital, and health centres and corporate sectors. Finally, the management of the hazards and the mitigation of the same will be studied.
On the other hand, the course on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for Environmental Health comprehends the various steps involved in various developmental activities in EIA.
This course comprises four blocks describing EIA in detail. The environment in EIA context mainly focuses on physical, chemical, biological, geological, social, economic, and aesthetic dimensions along with their complex interactions, which affects individuals, communities and ultimately determines their forms, character, relationship, and survival.
The University had launched a certificate course in mobile application development (CMAD), last year. Candidates who have qualified Class 12 could enrol to this six-month course.
