NEW DELHI: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is launching a diploma programme in value education from this year. The one-year programme will be offered both in the January and July admission cycles.
“The programme aims to inculcate positive values in teachers, professionals, students, parents and the community by integrating values in their transactional process of teaching and learning,” said a statement from IGNOU.
IGNOU has launched a range of courses from 2021 including a postgraduate diploma (PG diploma) course in corporate social responsibility and two online certificate courses through the government's e-learning platform, SWAYAM.
The diploma in value education’s main target group are elementary school teachers teaching Classes 1 to 8. It seeks to “orient [them] for integrating values in their transactional process of teaching and learning”, says the statement.
But teachers are not the only group the programme is for. It is open also to “professionals, students, parents and the community” and will “generate awareness and interest for inculcating positive values” in them. It is open also for NGOs, government servants and civil society organisations.
For admission, the candidate must have completed Class 12. The diploma in value education will be offered in both the January and July session and the fee is Rs 4,000. Those interested can apply through the official online admission portal: https://ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in/. Admission is valid for three years.
