IGNOU launches new MSc, PG diploma, diploma programmes in agriculture stream

NEW DELHI: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)’s School of Agriculture has launched three new programmes - MSc in Food Safety and Quality Management, Post Graduate Diploma in Agribusiness, and Diploma in Horticulture from January 2022 session. The interested candidates can register for the programmes at ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in.

MSc in Food Safety and Quality Management

The duration of MSc in the Food Safety and Quality Management programme is 2 years minimum and 4 years maximum.

Eligibility criteria for admission in MScFSQM

  • Graduation or Post Graduation in Science with Chemistry or Biochemistry or Microbiology as one of the subjects.
  • Graduation or Post Graduation in allied sciences like Agriculture, Food Science, Food Technology, Post Harvest Technology, Engineering, Home Science, Life Science, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Horticulture, Dairy Technology, Veterinary, Fisheries, Hotel Management and Catering, Hospitality Management etc.
  • Graduation with PG Diploma in Food Safety and Quality Management (lateral entry for 2nd year of MSc).

Employment opportunities:

  • Food safety team leader, member in Food industry/hospitality institutions
  • Food safety officer, inspector in Regulatory bodies
  • Auditor in certification and inspection bodies
  • Trainer, Counsellor in training, counseling bodies.
  • Member in supply chain management team in retail chain, industry
  • Self-Employment as certifying professionals, counselor, trainer, auditor

Post Graduate Diploma in Agribusiness (PGDAB)

The eligibility criteria of the programme is graduation in any discipline.

Target group:

  • Fresh graduates interested to pursue a career in the agriculture business
  • Contract farmers
  • Traders and intermediaries dealing with agricultural produce and products
  • Technician and managers in agro-industries and enterprises dealing with agriculture inputs and outputs
  • Self-entrepreneurs in agriculture
  • Market researchers and managers
  • Personnel of government and non-government organizations have a stake in the agriculture sector.

Diploma in Horticulture

The eligibility criteria of the programme is 10+2 or equivalent and the duration of the course is one year minimum and three year maximum.

  • Updating knowledge of farmers/entrepreneurs in the area of horticulture.
