Students selected for the Indian Institute of Astrophysics PhD programmes will be initially offered a junior research fellowship.

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) is accepting the application for the research and PhD programme on the official website, acsir.res.in/admissions. The IIA is part of the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research. Interested candidates can apply for the IIA PhD programme on till April 30.
The IIA offers programmes in fields such as sun and the solar system objects, stellar physics, interstellar medium, compact objects, star clusters, extragalactic astronomy, theoretical astrophysics and astronomical instrumentation. Students will have to submit a registration fee of Rs 1,000. However, those belonging from SC, ST and PwD categories will have to pay a registration fee of Rs 500.
The interview and test for admission into the IIA PhD programmes will be held between May 20 to July 5. The result will be declared on July 12. The classes will start in August.
Students applying for the PhD programme of IIA should have a cleared MSc or Integrated MSc in Physics, Applied Physics, Engineering Physics, Applied Mathematics, Astronomy, Electronics, Photonics, Optics. Students with ME or MTech and Integrated ME or MTech in Applied Physics, Engineering Physics, Computer Science, Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, Photonics, Optics, Opto-Electronics, Radio Physics & Electronics; and MPhil in Applied Physics, Instrumentation, Photonics, Optics, Physics can also apply for the PhD programme.
Selected students will be initially offered a junior research fellowship (JRF). Once the candidate completes two years as a JRF, he/she will be offered a senior research fellowship (SRF) after an assessment. The total tenure of the fellowship may not ordinarily exceed five years, inclusive of the one year course work.
