Every section holds nearly equal importance in CAT. So, you must have a good section-wise strategy to enhance your overall score. Listed below are the last-minute tips for different sections:
Quantitative Aptitude (QA)
Here, you must use shortcut techniques, formulae, and tricks wherever possible. Also, you must refrain from getting stuck in particular questions.
Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC)
In the case of verbal ability, you can easily use the elimination technique to spot the right answer. For the RC portion, be wary in choosing the right passages or go through the questions first to identify the least time-consuming ones
Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR)
This section relies upon the amount of practice you have put in the last few months. So, make it a point to select the familiar type of questions and not fall in dialectic traps. Besides, the elimination technique and diagrammatic approaches work best for this part.
CAT is less of a speed-based test and more of a complexity-handling feat. Yet, you need to balance between speed and accuracy. With practice, you would have known your strengths and weaknesses across all sections. So, during the exam, you must start with the questions that are easiest and least time-consuming for you.
When you have put in sufficient practice mastering different areas of CAT, you know where you rock the most. So, the obvious way to minimize negative marking is to choose the right questions first. Later on, you can spend more time on the doubtful areas and mark the answers a bit more cautiously.
If you aim to get into one of the IIMs or any such top B-school, you must strive to solve at least 70% of the questions with 99%+ accuracy. This can take you to the toppers league of 99 percentiles.
