IIM Kozhikode: A Vellayan re-appointed chairman of the institute

A Vellayan has been re-appointed as the chairman of the board of governors for a period of four years. This becomes his second tenure since 2018.
NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK) re-appoints A Vellayan as the chairman of the board of governors for a period of four years. Vellayan was first appointed for this position in November 2018.
The re-appointed chairman will chair his first meeting for his current tenure at IIMK on January 21, 2023. A Vellayan is also associated with various organisations including Ambadi Investments Pvt. Ltd., Kanoria Chemicals and Industries Limited and Foskor Pty. Ltd., South Africa. In addition to this, he has held positions of a president in various industry and trade organisations, and has also been the director of EXIM Bank and the Indian Overseas Bank.

Vellayan is an alumni of educational institutions such as Doon School, Sriram College of Commerce, Aston University, UK and University of Warwick Business School, UK and has been honored with a doctor of science by the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University and Aston University, UK.
In Vellayan's tenure, the institute secured a position in the top five management institutions in the country as per the NIRF Rankings among various other achievements. "This period also witnessed IIMK Kozhikode bagging the prestigious EFMD Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) Accreditation (2021) to complete a double crown of global recognition with the AMBA (UK) awarded to IIMK in 2010," said a press statement.
According to the statement, IIMK's executive post graduate programme ranks 16 in the Asia-Pacific region in the QS global executive MBA ranking 2021. The statement also added that, As per the QS masters in management rankings 2022, the post graduate programme (PGP) is among the top ten programmes in Asia and that IIMK secured the four Palmes of excellence category in the Eduniversal global rankings 2022.
While speaking about the re-appointment, IIM Kozhikode, director, Debashis Chatterjee, said: "On behalf of the entire IIM Kozhikode community, I am delighted to have Shri Vellayan, guiding us for a further period of 4 years as the Chairman of the Institute. I am confident the Institute will continue to breach barriers and make history with a mission to be a contextually relevant business school with world-class academic standards that develops socially-conscious managers, leaders and entrepreneurs.”
