IISc Bengaluru, Groww Foundation launch semiconductor skill development course for girls, women

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru and Groww Foundation have launched a semiconductor skill development programme for young girls and women students. The programme is launched to train next-generation talent, the Press Trust of India reported.

Groww Foundation has also announced to support 160 girls and women students over the span of three years through the skill development programmes, it said.

The programme, jointly launched by the Groww Foundation and the Centre for Nano Science and Engineering at IISc Bengaluru, will have three complementary courses to address different stages of academic and research.

Nano Science, Semiconductor Tech Programme

In the PTI report, Kalpana Swaminathan, spokesperson of Groww Foundation, said: "Through this collaboration with CeNSE IISc under what we call the Groww Scholar Program, we hope to unlock opportunities for young girls, women and tribal communities in a manner that organically builds pathways for their growth and advancement in deep science and advanced technology."

The programme also aims to encourage greater participation from girl and women students in the field of semiconductor ecosystem. “We encourage greater participation of women and young students in advanced fields such as micro and nano-technology,” Groww said in the report.

"Through immersive exposure at CeNSE laboratories and interactions with researchers, the programme seeks to inspire young girls to pursue careers in science and engineering and opens a window into cutting-edge research and innovation at the nano scale," it added.

The programme will be an opportunity for women students to get exposure to advanced research in nano science and semiconductor technology. The initiative also comes with a research internship offer for students who will complete the skill development programme.

Ambarish Ghosh, Chair, CeNSE, IISc stated in the report: "At CeNSE, we believe that building India's semiconductor future requires nurturing diverse talent. Through this collaboration with Groww Foundation, we hope to create meaningful opportunities for young girls, women researchers, and emerging talent."
