IISc Bengaluru launches BTech in Aerospace Engineering from 2026-27; admissions through JoSAA

IISc Bengaluru's four-year undergraduate programme will offer training in aerodynamics, propulsion, flight mechanics and research projects.
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, will introduce a Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in Aerospace Engineering from the 2026-27 academic session. By introducing this course, IISc is expanding its undergraduate engineering programmes. Admissions to the new programme will be conducted through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). The BTech in AE is scheduled to begin in August.
According to the institute, candidates will not be required to submit a separate application through the IISc website. Eligible students can secure admission by participating in the JoSAA counselling process.
Four-year programme with 128 credits
The BTech in Aerospace Engineering is a four-year programme spanning eight semesters with a total of 128 academic credits across core, humanities, project, and elective categories.

The curriculum introduces students to core aerospace subjects, including aerodynamics, propulsion, aerospace structures and flight mechanics in the initial semesters. As the programme progresses, students will study specialised areas such as guidance and control systems and space-related applications.
As per the institute statement, this programme provides a strong foundation in aerospace engineering while combining it with mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering mechanics and statistical methods.
Admission through JoSAA
Admissions to the new programme will be conducted through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling process.

Candidates will have to register on the JoSAA portal, fill in their programme preferences and participate in the counselling process. Seat allotment will be based on candidates' rank, category and preferences submitted during counselling.

According to IISc, graduates of the programme can explore careers in the aerospace and aviation industry, space research organisations, defence technology and allied sectors. The research-oriented curriculum is expected to prepare students for higher education and an academic career.
