IIST Thiruvananthapuram invites applications for PhD programmes

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, invites applications for its PhD programmes starting in January 2022. The PhD programme applications are offered by the departments of aerospace engineering, avionics, chemistry, earth and space sciences, humanities, mathematics and physics.

The online submission of applications began on November 24, 2021. The last date for online submission of IIST PhD programme applications, for IIST-Funded and IIT Palakkad IHub Foundation (IPTIF) Doctoral Fellowship Scheme, is December 13, 2021. The last date for online submission of applications for external fellowship is December 20, 2021.

“These dates are tentative and could change depending on the situation of the pandemic Covid-19 in the country”, mentioned the official notification on the IIST website.

To be eligible to apply for the IIST PhD programme, the applicant should be an Indian citizen. He or she shall be below 35 years as of December 13, 2021 (age relaxation is applicable as per government rules).

Applicants with a master’s degree in engineering technology, science, humanities, management or social sciences are eligible to apply to the respective departments. The selection procedure will include an online screening test followed by an interview. The interview will be conducted through video conference mode. However, in certain cases, candidates with a valid CSIR University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test - Junior Research Fellowship (UGC NET-JRF) or Lectureship can directly attend the interview. IIST admission 2021 for PhD: How to apply

The IIST application form 2021 for PhD programmes is available online. Women candidates and candidates belonging to scheduled caste, scheduled tribes and persons with disabilities have been provided with a reduction in the application fee.

• The application form cannot be edited once submitted.

• Application fee for general, EWS and OBC candidates who are male is Rs. 700 per department

• The application fee for SC or ST or PD and women applicants is Rs.350 per department.

• If the applicant is eligible and wishes to apply for more than one research area in the same department, the candidate need not pay any additional application fee.

• The application fee is non-refundable.

• The application fee shall be paid online after completing the process of registration.

• SC, ST, OBC, EWS and PD applicants shall upload the relevant certificate to the website before the prescribed date. OBC-NCL and EWS certificates issued after 01/04/2021 only will be accepted.

• Government employees or employees of public sector undertakings or autonomous bodies are mandated to produce a “no-objection certificate (NOC)” from the current employer at the time of the interview.
