IIT BHU Varanasi partners with Indian Navy to enhance research, academia, faculty, student engagement

The Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), Varanasi has partnered with the Indian Navy to strengthen collaboration in research, development and indigenisation of advanced naval technologies.

The agreement was signed to work jointly on research, technology development, academic engagement, faculty and student interactions, and capacity building.

The deal between the IIT BHU Varanasi and the Indian Navy was signed at naval headquarters, New Delhi, by B Sivakumar, Vice Admiral, AVSM, VSM, COM, Indian Navy, and Rajesh Kumar, dean (research and development), IIT (BHU), Varanasi, in the presence of senior officials from the Indian Navy and IIT (BHU).

“The partnership reflects the IndianNavy's continued commitment to fostering innovation, strengthening collaboration with premier academic institutions, and advancing indigenous capabilities to meet future maritime security challenges,” according to an official statement.

In 2025, the IIT Delhi collaborated with the Indian Navy to establish a research and design centre to improve the Quality of Life (QoL) onboard Indian naval shifts through design interventions.

The engineering institute has also commenced their orientation and induction programme 2026 for the academic batch 2026-27.

The orientation will be held for a week where new undergraduate (UG) students will be introduced to the college’s academic ecosystem, research culture, student services, and the campus life.

In addition, recently, Amit Patra, director of IIT BHU Varanasi, inaugurated a Heritage Park on campus’s main workshop.

The new park was established to celebrate the institute’s engineering legacy and inspire future innovators, the engineering college said.
