IIT Delhi concludes STEM mentorship programme for girl students of Class 9, 11

NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has concluded the third batch of Science Technology Engineering Maths (STEM) mentorship programme for winter phase. Girl students of Classes 9 and 11 from several government-backed and private schools of Delhi-NCR also participated.

The STEM programme was launched with an objective to increase the female representation among students, the institute said. On completion of the programme, the third batch students were conferred with certificates from Narayan D Kuru, dean, academics, IIT Delhi.

Ami Pachaury, a STEM alumni from IIT Guwahati, said: “The program helped me see the real-world applications of what we were learning in textbooks and explore various fields. The guidance I received from the highly renowned professors/researchers during my attendance at IIT Delhi for the STEM Mentorship Program has helped me get where I am today."

Muskan, one of the students from STEM programme 2025, shared her experience and said,“It feels very good to be a part of the STEM Mentorship program where I learnt so much. Also, the experience was very good. I really enjoyed the lectures, DIY sessions and Makers Space where we learned about crystals, microorganisms, etc. and made Solar lamps.”

Rangan Banerjee, director, IIT Delhi; alumnae of IIT Delhi from various fields; Akshay Chhabra, director, technology transformation at American Express (AMEX) all participated in the event.

IIT Delhi STEM 2025: Winter and Summer phase

In the winter phase, IIT Delhi alumni and faculty engaged with students on a variety of topics, including women's leadership roles in STEM, the role of AI in neuroscience, and algorithm design.

As part of the winter and summer phase during the STEM programme, the students attended the Sci-Tech spins lecture series, which is held monthly. They were also part of a lecture on space science and technology which was taken by Aisa Bowe, founder and CEO of STEM board and former aerospace engineer at NASA.

Inception of STEM

The program was launched by Divya Nayar in 2021 with 10 student participants. Its successful expansion was seen with the current batch achieving the milestone of the highest-ever number of registered participants of 80.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Rohit Vaish, department of computer science and engineering, who expressed his gratitude to the STEM team that made the program a success.
