IIT Delhi joins hands with IFFCO to bring labs to farms

NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi signed an agreement on July 20 with Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO)’s Nano Biotechnology Research Centre (NBRC), a research and development unit, for several innovative and collaborative projects to bring labs to farms.

IFFCO endeavors to build super advanced agricultural technological projects in line with the Prime Minister Modi’s vision of “Atmanirbhar Bharat” and “Atmanirbhar Krishi”. It also strives to promote precision agriculture and sustainable development in India to double farmers’ income by 2022, as per a statement from IIT Delhi.

The agreement between IIT Delhi and IFFCO will serve the purpose of conducting research and technological development in agriculture. It will facilitate advanced research in the Area of Nano Technology for futuristic applications, said the IIT Delhi statement. The two will share their laboratories and “address challenging agricultural & environmental related problems to find an innovative solution.”

Welcoming the initiative, V Ramgopal Rao, director of IIT Delhi said: “Impetus to research and innovations will help in achieving the modern agriculture system, which will be beneficial for farmers of the country. IIT Delhi is happy to collaborate with IFFCO and work together on futuristic technologies of mutual interest”.

U S Awasthi, MD, IFFCO said: “At IFFCO, we always look forward to adopt new technologies so that we can add value to the farmer at ground level. We also believe in creating sustainable innovative solutions to reduce the input cost of agriculture and farming and hence increase the income of farmers and that is the reason we were able to create the World's 1st Nano Urea Liquid at IFFCO.”

“We are also committed to sustainable Agriculture and look for opportunities to create new solutions for sustainable farming to reduce environmental pollution,” he added.
