Admission to the MTech programme at Indian Institute of Technology Delhi will be based on a valid Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) score, with discipline-wise cut-offs ranging from 400 to 600 for general category candidates. In addition to a valid GATE score, applicants are required to meet minimum academic requirements.

According to IIT Delhi’s MTech shortlisting criteria for the academic year 2025-26, general category candidates with a BTech and BE degree in Textile Engineering require a minimum GATE score of 400, while those from non-textile engineering disciplines and MSc degree holders should secure at least 600 marks in GATE.
In addition to obtaining a GATE cut-off, candidates must meet minimum academic performance criteria. General, EWS and OBC-NCL applicants should have secured at least 60% marks or an equivalent CGPA of 6.0 on a 10-point scale in the qualifying degree. For SC, ST and PwD candidates, the minimum requirement is 55% marks or a CGPA of 5.5.
Candidates should have obtained at least 60% marks in all previous degrees and diplomas. Those from non-textile engineering backgrounds should have degrees relevant to the MTech programmes offered by the respective department, in addition to meeting the GATE and degree cut-off requirements.

Admission to MTech and PhD programmes are conducted twice a year. IIT Delhi MTech admission notification 2026 is usually published in March, after the GATE exam 2026. Seat allotments are finalised by the end of May, and again in October, followed by admissions in December.
Candidates who are shortlisted based on their GATE score and academic performance will be called for an interview and/ or written exam by departmental research committees.
MTech at IIT Delhi is a 2-year programme with four semesters. Students will be required to complete coursework and research components as prescribed by the department. Non-sponsored MTech students are eligible for teaching or research assistantships. Under this scheme, students will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 12,400 and are required to provide academic or research assistance to their department for up to eight hours per week.
