NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has concluded the first phase of placements with students getting over 925 job offers, a statement from the institute said. Given the COVID-19 situation, the placement process was conducted online.

The count of offers includes pre-placement offers (PPOs) extended to members of the graduating batch of 2020-21.

The top recruiters in this season were Microsoft, Intel, Oracle, Tata Projects, EXL Services, ICICI Bank, Goldman Sachs, HCL, Wells Fargo and IQVIA.

International offers included offers received from countries like Japan, Middle East, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan. More than 20 selections for international profiles have been confirmed till now. Placement began at most established IITs, including IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay and IIT Madras, on December 1. Despite the general gloom, at least the first phase of IIT placements has been promising.

IIT Delhi Placement: Participating companies

Many companies with multinational operations have currently offered students for domestic roles which are expected to be converted to international offers depending on the situation.

Highlighting the sectoral trend data for the first phase of the placement season, Anishya Madan, head, office of career services at IIT Delhi, said: “Most students have opted for jobs in their technical core. Since IT and Analytics are core to some departments like computer science, mathematics and computing etc.; companies registering under the ‘finance’ track are recruiting for fintech roles and companies registering under ‘other’ sector also comprise many ‘core’ sector companies. Further, management students opted for management roles. We can say that around 90% of students have bagged offers in their core sector.”

The statement further said that more than 400 organisations across sectors offering over 675 job profiles have registered as of now for hiring the students. Also, many recruiters are expected to recruit students in the second phase of the virtual placement season which will begin at the end of January and continue till May 2021.
