IIT Gandhinagar to hold free online camp for school children

NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar will conduct a free online camp for students of classes eight to 12 to create awareness among school students and their parents about liberal arts. Camp HSS will further help them decide on life and career beyond the conventional mainstream choices, a statement from the institute said.

A first-of-its-kind event, Camp HSS, by the the department of humanities and social sciences will be held from July 30 to August 1, 2021. No fee will be charged for participation.

The last date to register for the free online is July 20. The camp, the statement says, will help facilitate the transformation of school children into thinkers or influencers.

Camp HSS is all about the fun, excitement and pleasure of engaging with humanities and social sciences with critical, reflective and logical thinking, empathy and creativity”, said Dr. Jaison A Manjaly, Jasubhai Memorial Chair Professor of philosophy and cognitive science), IIT Gandhinagar. “This Camp would also trigger curiosity among school children about topics that are otherwise not given adequate space in school curriculum.”

This initiative, Manjaly said, would encourage other Institutions to create similar programmes to engage more with school children and their parents

The camp also aims to create awareness among school students and parents about the humanities and social science programmes in technology institutions such as IITs.

Students registering for the camp would understand the pleasure of liberal arts subjects; it will create awareness among students and parents about the possibilities of liberal arts education; generate curiosity among school children about the topics in humanities and social sciences among others.

The camp will also give the school students an opportunity to interact with faculty from institutions of higher education.
