IIT Hyderabad hosts PanIIT World of Technology satellite site visit

NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad, hosted the PanIIT World of Technology (PIWOT) Satellite site visit, offering participants “an immersive experience” in innovations and initiatives of the institute.Themed as "A Smarter World: AI as the Tool, Industry 5.0 as the Path" the event demonstrated the institute’s global technological advancements while addressing the regional and global challenges.

The IIT Hyderabad-led PIWOT unites a global network of IIT alumni, innovators, and thought leaders to address pressing global challenges through technology and collaboration. Over 250 startups, 23 IIT representatives, 2,000 attendees, 1,000 investors, and 50 renowned speakers participated in the event.

“Collaboration is key to our success,” BS Murthy, director at IIT Hyderabad said while addressing the gathering and highlighting IIT Hyderabad’s dedication to impactful research, innovation and collaboration.

A special speech was delivered by BJ Rao, vice chancellor of the University of Hyderabad, where he said: “At IIT Hyderabad, it strives to use technology to create impactful solutions for pressing challenges in rural and underserved areas. From innovative health initiatives for newborns to platforms like 'School in a Walk' that deliver education without requiring internet connectivity, we are addressing gaps in accessibility. Through projects like Spoken Tutorials, we empower school dropouts in villages by equipping them with skills to work in IT and coding, bringing opportunities directly to rural areas. Partnering with organizations to build infrastructure and foster innovation, we are dedicated to uplifting communities and transforming lives."

Valluri Kranthi, district magistrate of Sangareddy district, Telangana, also gave a speech, highlighting IIT Hyderabad’s innovative contributions to regional development and technological progress. "Technology must address real-world problems and cater to the needs of people, especially in underserved areas. From personalized education plans for students in remote villages to affordable healthcare solutions for tribal communities, there is immense potential to deploy scalable and cost-effective innovations," Kranthi added.

Mudrika Khandelwal, former dean of ACR, IIT Hyderabad, concluded the event with a vote of thanks.

The programme included panel discussions on artificial intelligence (AI) research and commercialization by Abhinav Kumar, professor at IIT Hyderabad. S Surya Kumar, professor at IIT Hyderabad also explained about Industry-Academia Connect.

The PIWOT satellite visit included a campus tour, showcasing “cutting-edge” facilities such as the Technology Innovation Hub on Autonomous Navigation (TIHAN) and Innovation and Technology Incubation Center, (i-TIC).
