IIT Kanpur’s sports festival Udghosh 2023 begins; 2,500 students participating

IIT Kanpur will host students from 450 colleges during the 19th edition of Udghosh, which is being held FROM October 6 to 8.

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Kanpur) will organise the 19th edition of its intercollegiate sports festival ‘Udghosh’ from October 6to 8. This year, Udghosh 2023 sports such as cricket, football, badminton, chess and e-sports will be held.

IIT Kanpur said over 2,500 participants from more than 450 colleges across the country will participate in 75 events, spanning 20 sports disciplines. S Ganesh, officiating director, IIT Kanpur, said, “The sheer numbers, be it in terms of athletes, participating colleges or the array of sporting events brings to mind the grandeur and scale synonymous with the Colosseum. It is exciting and I share the sentiment with our athletes as they look ahead to the opportunity to make a mark in the competition. I would also like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to those who have dedicated their time and creativity to meticulously plan for this significant moment.”

IIT Kanpur added that the Udghosh 2023 not just celebrates the athletic prowess but also culture, laughter and life. Along with sports events, the institute will also organise music and entertainment performances such as ‘comedy nights’, ‘bollywood nights’, and electronic dance music. The three-day sport festival will also feature rap shows, magic shows, fire shows, silent disco shows and prom nights among other things.

Athletes participating in the festival will also get opportunity to interact with eminent sportsmen on October 8. The sport festival will see the participation of Kabbadi player Rahul Chaudhari during the closing ceremony. During this special event, he will delve into his personal journey, recounting the challenges he encountered and the strategies he employed to triumph over them, the institute said.
