IIT Madras, Redington to establish chair in logistics, supply chain management

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Madras) has partnered with Redington, to establish the ‘R Srinivasan International Visiting Chair’ dedicated to advancing research in logistics and supply chain management, with a special emphasis on sustainable practices.

The Chair is named after R Srinivasan, the founder of the Redington Group. It aims to attract leading experts from around the world to collaborate with faculty and researchers at IIT Madras on critical areas such as supply chain optimization, digital transformation, and sustainable supply chain practices.

Speaking on the occasion, the founder of Redington Group, R Srinivasan said that supply chain is the subject of serious study and in India, supply chains constitute around 7 to 10% of their total costs. He added that the best example is the case of vaccines during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the director of IIT Madras, V Kamakoti said that the supply chain is becoming a very important aspect and that a deep analysis of how it works is essential. He added that another thing they are looking at is how crucial India is in terms of supply chain.

The agreement was signed on February 9, 2024, by the director of IIT Madras, V Kamakoti and J Ramachandran, chairman of Redington Limited.

The ceremony was attended by distinguished guests including VS Hariharan, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Redington Limited and Vasudha Narasimhan, Vice President, Office of Institutional Advancement in IIT Madras along with faculty members and researchers.
