IIT Madras, Verizon India launch scholarship for BSc students
IIT Madras: Economically weak students studying BSc in programming and data science will be selected for the scholarship.

NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras and information technology company Verizon India, have launched a merit-cum-means scholarship for students of BSc in programming and data science . Named ‘V Provide Right Opportunity to Power Enabled Learning’ or ‘V PROPEL’, it will be given to students of the programme who come from families with annual income less than Rs 1 lakh. The student will receive the scholarship for four academic terms.
Meritorious women students and students with any kind of disability will be given preference during the selection process.
IIT Madras launched the online BSc in programming and data science in 2020. “The World Economic Forum predicts that by 2022, data analysts and scientists will be the most emerging job roles, globally. Hence, we chose a specialization in programming and data science,” said Mahesh Panchagnula, dean, alumni and corporate relations, IIT Madras
“Verizon India has been a long-time supporter of our efforts in helping deserving students on their education journey. We are delighted to partner with them again to support financially distressed students in the BSc program in programming and data science”, he added.
Vijayaraman Subramanian, managing director, Verizon India added: “With this initiative in collaboration with a premier institute like IIT Madras, we aim to provide a platform for students to build a career in programming and data science which is a future-focussed domain and equip them with the knowledge and skills to become successful data scientists and data engineers of tomorrow.”
Verizon India and IIT Madras will host a webinar on March 25 for students and young aspirants who wish to explore the scholarship program.
