IIT Mandi’s 12th convocation on September 28; over 600 students to get degrees

IIT Mandi Convocation: Out of the 638 graduates receiving degrees, 297 are undergraduate students, 284 are postgraduates, and 55 are PhD scholars.

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology Mandi has announced to celebrate its 12th convocation on Saturday, September 28, 2024. As per the official statement, a total of 636 graduating students will receive their degrees at IIT Mandi’s 12th convocation. Among the graduates, there will be 297 undergraduate students, 284 postgraduate students, and 55 Ph.D. scholars.

The ceremony will feature Manoj Jain, chairman and managing director of Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), as the chief guest. Guests of honor will include Rajeev Ahuja, director of IIT Ropar; Narendra Kumar Arya, director of ER and IPR at DRDO; and Krishna Ika, CEO and chairman of Brainwave Science. Lt Gen Kanwal Jeet Singh Dhillon (Retd), chairman of the Board of Governors at IIT Mandi, will preside over the event.

IIT Mandi Convocation 2024: About chief guest Manoj Jain

As per the IIT Mandi official press release, Manoj Jain began his career at Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) in 1991 as a probationary engineer, after graduating with a gold medal in electronics engineering from MNIT Jaipur. Throughout his distinguished career, he has made significant contributions to research and development, particularly in digital multiplexers, military switches, defense networks, and radar technologies.

He has also held several important leadership roles, including general manager of BEL’s product development and innovation centre and the electronic warfare and avionics SBU. Jain's achievements have garnered him numerous awards, and he holds multiple patents for his innovative work.

IIT Mandi, IIT Roorkee, C-DOT team up for 6G Development

Last month, the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) and the IIT Mandi collaborated with the Center for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), a leading Telecom R and D center under the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Government of India, to develop "Cell-Free 6G Access Points."

According to the official press release, this 6G initiative will focus on creating access points (APs) to facilitate the future 6G radio access networks. The project also aims to contribute to the standardization of 6G, promote commercialization, generate intellectual property rights (IPRs), and cultivate a skilled workforce to support the evolving 6G environment.
