Use NowNEW DELHI: The Supreme Court of India directed All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to postpone Institute of National Importance Combined Entrance Test (INI CET) by a month due to COVID-19. The INI CET 2021 July session was scheduled to be held on June 16.
The decision has been taken after considering that many candidates were on COVID duty and were away from the exam centres and had little time for preparation, reported Live Law . AIIMS announced the INI CET 2021 schedule on May 28 giving students under three weeks to make arrangements. Many MBBS graduates hoping to write the exam considered this “short notice” and had moved the Supreme Court for relief.
Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice MR Shah were hearing the petition. INI CET is conducted for admission to AIIMS, JIPMER, NIMHANS and PGIMER.
INI CET 2021 July session postponed by a month
As per the Live Law report, the bench said: “Considering that the candidates have been rendering Covid duties far away from Centres chosen and inadequate time for preparation, we are of the view that the fixation of the date on June 16th is arbitrary. We direct AIIMS to postpone the exam at least by a month.”
The bench took the decision after hearing two petitions - one filed by a group of 23 MBBS doctors and another filed by the Indian Medical Association, Medical Student Network with 35 doctors on COVID-duty.
Senior advocate for the petitioner, Arvind Datar submitted that conducting INI CET affects the lives of the doctors. The advocate told the court about the appeal made by PM Modi for doctors to join the COVID-19 duty and to postpone NEET exam.
