In a notice dated October 24, 2026, the university's Office of the Registrar said the decision was taken to safeguard students’ academic interests and to ensure continuity in the teaching-learning process without undue disruption.
The notice directs all deans, heads, directors, faculty members and students to follow the online class schedule and ensure regular participation in academic activities.
The university has asked faculty members to make the necessary arrangements to conduct classes through online platforms. They have also been directed to provide students with the required academic support and learning materials.

Jamia protest over students' union elections
The announcement comes amid an ongoing protest by Jamia students demanding the restoration of the Jamia Millia Islamia Students' Union (JMISU) and an announcement of election dates for the 2026–27 academic session.
PTI report states that students held a general body meeting at the university's Ghalib Lawn in support of the ongoing hunger strike and sit-in protest. The university's High Level Committee (HLC) has appealed to protesting students to call off their agitation and cooperate with the committee constituted to draft the students' union constitution. The HLC said announcing election dates would be premature without a constitution and a mechanism for conducting elections.
