Jamia Millia Islamia vice-chancellor addresses newly-enrolled BTech students

NEW DELHI: Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI) 's vice chancellor Najma Akhtar, addressed the newly-admitted students of the university's bachelor in technology (BTech) engineering programme. She encouraged the students to realise their full potential and to optimally utilise the facilities and infrastructure available on the JMI campus.

Akhtar also stressed on the role of an engineer in offering solutions to the challenges that society faces and a commitment for nation building and humanity. She added that university has a widespread alumni network in various industries and advises the students to hone their skills and turn out to be versatile individuals.

The JMI vice-chancellor lauded the fact that this year, the university saw a high number of girl students as part of the B.Tech. programme and hoped for the number to increase in the future. She also announced the re-opening of the hostel facilities for the students shortly.

Najma Akhtar praised the dean Mini S Thomas and the faculty of engineering and technology, heads of the departments and faculty coordinators for successfully organizing the student induction programme. At the ceremony, the students were welcomed to the university with an address by Mini S Thomas who reiterated that the students should feel proud to be part of this great Institution and stressed the need to participate in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities along with studies, to develop as rounded individuals.

This student induction programme (SIP) aims to provide an opportunity to newly admitted students of the BTech programme to get themselves oriented towards the university. All the SIP sessions were designed to address multiple facets of a student's life. The organisation of the SIP in the faculty was in accordance with the AICTE guidelines. The students had a campus tour of the campus facilities like CIT, university library, health centre, counselling centre, sports complex and controller of exams among others.

The heads of various departments introduced salient features of their respective departments to the students. Additionally, the students were also given opportunities to interact with the distinguished experts from the multidisciplinary fields. The SIP will continue for the next two weeks while students continue to explore the university and campus facilities.
