21 Jamia Millia Islamia researchers featured in world’s top 2% of scientists

Almost 3,000 Indian researchers found a place in Stanford top scientist list that represents beneficial impact of the country on the global research platform.

NEW DELHI: Twenty-one researchers of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) have been featured in the list of top 2% scientists worldwide by Stanford University. The world’s top 2% scientists list was prepared by a team of experts led by John Ioannidis, professor at Stanford University and published by Elsevier BV.

“Imran Ali, Sushant G Ghosh, Tokeer Ahmad, Sharif Ahmed and Tariqul Islam found a place in both the coveted lists (Career-long and Single year 2021),” the JMI said.

While in the 2021 list of the top 2% scientists, Abid Haleem, Haseeb Ahsan, Mohd Javaid, Atiqur Rahman, Rafiq Ahmad, Md Imtiyaas Hassan, Sharf Ilahi Siddiqui, Saif Ali Chaudhry, Tabrez Alam Khan, Musheer Ahmad, Khalid Raza, Arshad Noor Siddiquee, Faqeer Mohammad, Ufana Riaz, Ahteshamul Haque, and Rana Tabassum have been included.

Ankan Sen and Amir Azam are only on the career-long top 2% of scientists list.

74 scientists of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) have also been listed in the scientists list released by Stanford.

Almost 3,000 researchers from India found a place in the list that represents the beneficial impact of the country on the global research platform. Stanford University has released two separate lists. “The first coveted list is based on a career-long in which 07 JMI professors found their place. The second list for the year 2021 performance has 21 scientists from JMI,” the university said in a statement.

JMI Vice Chancellor Najma Akhtar said, “It is an acknowledgement of the high standard of research being undertaken at JMI. This recognition places the university on the global map of excellence and brings great pride to the institution.”

Stanford University scientists created a database of top-cited scientists that provides standardized information on citations, h-index, co-authorship adjusted hm-index, citations to papers in different authorship positions and a composite indicator (c-score). They classified scientists into 22 scientific fields and 176 sub-fields.
