Jamia opts for online open book exams after student protests

NEW DELHI: The Jamia Millia Islamia University, on Monday, said that it will conduct open book exams for odd semester and odd year students in place of the now scrapped online examinations.

The university had initially planned to conduct online examinations but had kept it on hold following student protests. The decision to conduct open book examinations was taken after the Academic Council meeting on December 30.

Jamia Millia Islamia, in a notification released on Monday, said: “The matter was placed before the Academic Council at its meeting held on December 30, 2020. The Academic Council has now approved that the examination for odd semester/year end (except 1st semester or year ) examinations be conducted through Open Book mode of examinations.”

The university will also conduct a mock examination to familiarise the students with the format. Dates of the mock examinations will be communicated to students through their registered email, the university said.

The open book exams will be held for four hours in total with three hours allotted for writing the exam and one hour for uploading the answer sheets.

Students can access the open book examinations through links provided on jmicoe.in after logging in with their credentials.

Students can also receive question papers through Whatsapp or email in case they are unable to access it through the university website.
