NEW DELHI: The Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced), also known as JEE Advanced is conducted for admission in undergraduate and integrated postgraduate courses in IITs. The JEE Advanced exam this year will be conducted on September 27, after several postponements from its initial date in May due to coronavirus pandemic.

JEE Advanced is a BIG exam for candidates aspiring admission in IITs. Only those candidates who qualify JEE Main 2020 and are ranked in top 2,50,000 in order of merit will be eligible to appear in the JEE Advanced exam for some 13,000 seats in all 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

In this unprecedented time of covid-19 pandemic and considering the misery among students related exam schedule and admission process, JEE Advanced 2020 will see some major changes this year, the most important being relaxation in class 12 percentage requirement. Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, the organising institute of JEE Advanced 2020 exam, also released the detailed, revised examination brochure listing all the changes in exam. The changes brought in JEE Advanced 2020 are

Relaxation in requirement of class 12 marks
The IITs, in consultation with MHRD and other competent bodies have decided to relax the requirement of obtaining minimum 75% marks in class 12 for admission in B.Tech and integrated postgraduate programs in engineering at IITs. This relaxation will be applicable only for admission in the academic year 2020-21. This rebate has been provided keeping in mind the hardship faced by students at this pandemic.

Increase in Female Supernumerary Seats
The IIT council in its meeting held earlier this year has decided to increase the number of female supernumerary seats by 20% in 2020-21 of the total gender neutral seats that were available in 2019-20. The increase in seats will be across all 23 IITs and will be open for admission only to female candidates who qualify JEE Advanced 2020.

Increase in number of exam cities
The total number of examination cities for JEE Advanced 2020 has been increased to 212 with respect to 171 exam cities last year. This has been done in order to have less number of candidates in one exam centre, thus increasing the safety and social distancing among students. Also, students will be required to select 8 options of exam cities while filling the application form.

No exam in foreign centres
Keeping in mind the restrictions on foreign travel and coronavirus spread all over the world, JEE Advanced 2020 will not be conducted at any of the foreign exam centres. The exam was conducted at Dubai, Dhaka, Singapore, Kathmandu. The JEE Advanced 2020 exam was also to be conducted in the USA as per the initial announcement this year.

JEE Advanced Application Form 2020
