NEW DELHI: The Joint Entrance Examination Advanced (JEE Advanced 2025) is one of the most competitive exams in India with only 1 in 10 candidates securing a seat through JoSAA counselling 2025 held for allotting seats in IITs, NITs, and other participating engineering colleges.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) declared the JEE Main 2025 final results today for 14,75,103 candidates. The JEE Advanced registration will commence on April 23 on the official website, jeeadv.ac.in.

Qualified candidates in the exam by obtaining a minimum JEE Main cut-off 2025 will have to register to appear for the JEE Adv exam. Only those registered candidates who also fulfill the 75% criteria in Class 12 will be considered for IIT, NIT admissions.

75% criteria for JEE Main was scrapped as a one-time measure during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, it was restored in 2023 and is applicable for the academic year 2025-26 as well. Students should have either scored 75% aggregate marks or should be in the top 20 percentile in the Class 12 board exam.

How many students qualify for JEE Advanced 2025?

The number of seats allotted in 2024 (17,695) is almost similar to 2023 (17,340), but higher in the last 3 years. This shows a slight increase in seat availability in these premium institutions.

While comparing the increase in registration and almost similar number of allotments, it is clear that the competition for JEE Advanced IIT admissions remains tough.

The last three years’ data shows that 1 in 10 candidates who appeared secured a seat in 2024. The number was approximately the same in 2023. The count, however, was comparatively better towards the end of the pandemic in 2022, wherein only 1 in 9.4 candidates secured a seat through JoSAA counselling.

To better understand how many qualify for IIT admissions, here is last year’s data.

Out of the total 1,86,584 registered candidates, 96.6% of them appeared, of which 26.8% qualified. Only 9.83% of candidates who appeared for the JEE Advanced exam got a seat.
