The number of seats allotted in 2024 (17,695) is almost similar to 2023 (17,340), but higher in the last 3 years. This shows a slight increase in seat availability in these premium institutions.
While comparing the increase in registration and almost similar number of allotments, it is clear that the competition for JEE Advanced IIT admissions remains tough.
The last three years’ data shows that 1 in 10 candidates who appeared secured a seat in 2024. The number was approximately the same in 2023. The count, however, was comparatively better towards the end of the pandemic in 2022, wherein only 1 in 9.4 candidates secured a seat through JoSAA counselling.
To better understand how many qualify for IIT admissions, here is last year’s data.
Out of the total 1,86,584 registered candidates, 96.6% of them appeared, of which 26.8% qualified. Only 9.83% of candidates who appeared for the JEE Advanced exam got a seat.
