NEW DELHI: The first round of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2021 for admission to engineering programmes may be held in February 2021, highly-placed sources in the National Testing Agency told Careers360. The JEE Main is typically held twice a year to allow applicants two attempts and that is not likely to change despite the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The second JEE Main 2021 exam date is likely to be in May instead of April. JEE Main 2021 notification to be released soon.

Holding the first JEE Main 2021 in January as is the norm will be “almost impossible”, the official toldCareers360. They added that they will “hopefully” conduct it by the end of February. The second round of the exam is typically held in April but “that is less likely” as well, said the official.
The exams have to be scheduled with the school board exams in mind and two states, Gujarat and Maharashtra, have already indicated that their 2021 board exams will be pushed to April. “We are speaking to all the boards, but the local factors and issues that states have to deal with because of the pandemic make it difficult for any state to commit on a firm basis,” said the official.
Two JEE Main 2021 dates will be in February and May to “provide a fair opportunity” and “for all students to appear for at least either of the two exams”, they added.
The schedule is likely to be officially notified in the next seven-10 days as the consultation with state boards conclude. The schedule for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2021 for medicine is unlikely to change.
The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) hold their admission test, JEE Advanced, after both the JEE Main exams are over and the results declared. IIT Delhi director, V Ramgopal Rao toldCareers360 that the IITs are not aware of JEE Main 2021 schedule yet but IIT Kharagpur will conduct JEE Advanced 2021.
Registration for the JEE Main 2020’s January exam had started in September and ended on October 10. But this year, there has been no official word on registrations starting for the JEE Main 2021’s January round. The second round of JEE Main 2020 had been originally scheduled for April but after several postponements due to the coronavirus outbreak, it was finally held from September 1 to 6. The result for the engineering paper was declared late night on September 11.
