NEW DELHI: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main 2023) exam dates and started the registration process today, December 15, on the official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in. JEE Mains 2023, engineering entrance exam, will be held in two phases in the upcoming year, session 1 will be held in January and session 2 in April 2023.

The NTA has introduced major changes in the JEE Mains 2023 exam. The eligibility criteria of 75% marks in the Class 12 exam to appear for the NTA JEE Main 2023 exam has been restored, as per the information brochure. The testing agency had removed the JEE Main 75% criteria last year as an one-time measure due to academic loss caused due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

JEE Main 2023 session 1 will be held from January 24 to 31 and session 2 will commence from April 6 to 12, 2023. Since things are returning to normalcy, the officials have decided to reinstate the eligibility criteria followed prior to the pandemic period. Additionally, the NTA has announced some major changes in the engineering entrance exam.

JEE Main 2023: 5 major changes

Candidates are advised to go through the new rules before filling in the JEE Main application form 2023. Here’s the list of changes that students must know.

75% criteria - Admission to BE, BTech, BArch, BPlanning courses in NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs participating through Central Seat Allocation Board will be based on All India Rank subject to the condition that the candidate should have secured at least 75% marks in the Class 12 examination conducted by the any recognised board. SC, ST candidates should have secured 65% in the Class 12 or in the qualifying examination.

Number of exam cities decreased - The number of JEE Main 2023 exam cities has been decreased to 399 in India as compared to 514 exam cities last year. However, the number of exam cities abroad has increased to 24 compared to 13 cities last year.

Increase in JEE Main 2023 registration fees - The NTA has increased the registration fees for male candidates from Rs 650 to Rs 1,000, while female candidates have to pay Rs 800. Earlier, SC, ST, PwD, transgender had to pay Rs 325 only, however, now SC, ST, PwD and Third Gender candidates have to pay Rs 500 to appear for BE, BTech, BArch and BPlanning papers.

JEE Main 2023 application fee for candidates outside India has also been increased. Male candidates appearing for the exam will have to pay Rs 5,000 while female candidates have to pay Rs 4,000. Earlier, the fees for applicants outside India was Rs 3,000 and Rs 1,500 for male and female candidates respectively.

Mandatory parents details - While filling the JEE Main application form 2023, students have to now add parent’s or guardian’s email address and mobile number. Earlier, it was not mandatory, now students will have to furnish the details to successfully complete the JEE Main registration.

One application - Students applying for the JEE Mains exam 2023 will be able to apply for only one session at a time. According to the NTA JEE exam dates notification 2023, “In the first session of JEE (Main) - 2023, only Session 1 will be visible and candidates can opt for that. In the next session, Session 2 will be visible, and the candidates can opt for that Session.”

Candidates will not be allowed to fill more than one application form. “Strict action will be taken, even at a later stage, against such candidates who have filled more than one application form,” the NTA said.
