NIT vs GFTI: Which requires a lower JEE Main cutoff?

Try NowThe National Testing Agency (NTA) will announce the results of Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) 2026 by April 20. Once the results are declared, candidates will begin preparing for admissions to various engineering colleges. Among the most popular choices for BTech and BE programmes through JEE Main are the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and Government-Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs).

Following this process, counselling is conducted by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). India has 31 NITs and over 47 GFTIs. Both NITs and GFTIs follow reservation policies; however, NITs allocate 50% of seats to home state candidates and 50% to candidates from other states, while GFTIs do not follow a fixed home state reservation percentage.
