NEW DELHI: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued instructions on how to attempt physics, chemistry, and mathematics (PCM) sections in the Joint Entrance Examination-Main (JEE Mains 2025) question paper. The JEE Main January 22 shift 2 exam is scheduled to commence at 3 pm today. The shift 1 exam analysis and question paper along with the answer key is expected to be made available soon. On the first day of JEE, aspirants allotted exam centres in Karnataka faced challenges as they struggled to get inside the exam centre amid Bengaluru traffic.

In subject-specific instructions, the NTA said that wrong answers will fetch candidates a negative mark of -1. For every correct answer, candidates will be awarded 4 marks and for every unattended question, no marks will be given, as per the marking scheme.

JEE Main question paper 2025

The JEE Main question paper 2025 has two sections - Section A will have 20 questions carrying 80 marks and section B will have 5 compulsory questions carrying 20 marks, as per the marking scheme. This year, the NTA has removed the optional questions, introduced during COVID, in Section B.

BE, BTech paper 1 - This section contains 20 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) in section A. Out of the four options, candidates have been asked to select the most appropriate answer. The NTA advised candidates to do the calculations with the constants given in the questions.

In section B, candidates will have to attempt all five questions. This section contains questions whose answers are to be filled as a numerical value. “For each question, enter the correct integer value of the answer using the mouse and the onscreen virtual numeric keypad in the place designated to enter the answer,” the NTA said. Candidates have been asked to round off the answer to the nearest integer.

Drawing test - This section is conducted for BArch and BPlanning paper 2. The drawing test will have only two questions for 100 marks. It is mandatory to attempt both the questions which carry equal marks.

No supplementary Drawing Sheets will be issued. All candidates are advised to carry all required material for drawings and graphics work like pencils, color pencils, crayons, eraser, geometry box, the NTA said.

Candidates are not allowed to take watercolor poster color inside the exam hall. “Candidates must not write roll number, name, centre address, Place of examination, or make any special sign in any part of the Test Booklet,” it added.
