The Karnataka Higher Education Department has published the draft seat matrix for engineering admissions for the 2026-27 academic year through the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA). Colleges, students, and other stakeholders can submit objections or suggestions until June 9.

According to a notification issued by the DTE on May 30, the draft seat matrix has been released for admission to engineering colleges across Karnataka through the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) 2026 counselling process.

The draft seat matrix includes engineering colleges across Karnataka and provides branch-wise and category-wise seat details for courses such as Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering (ME), and other engineering programmes.

100% govt, 95% aided seats via KEA

The notification states that 100% of the approved seats in government engineering colleges will be filled through KEA under the government quota. The draft seat matrix also includes seat details for government, aided, and private engineering colleges.

In aided engineering colleges, 95% of the approved seats will be filled through KEA under the government quota, while the remaining 5% of the seats are reserved under the management quota.

According to the draft seat matrix, in unaided engineering colleges, 45% of seats will be filled through KEA under the government quota, 30% through COMEDK, and the remaining 25% under the management and NRI quotas.

KCET 2026 draft seat matrix

Below are the seat allocations proposed in the draft matrix for government engineering colleges, VTU constituent colleges, and aided engineering colleges for the 2026-27 academic year.

The department said that the seat matrix has been prepared based on approvals given by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and other authorities for the 2026-27 academic year. It also includes colleges that have received approval for new courses, increased seats, mergers, or other approved changes.

Educational institutions and members of the public can submit objections or suggestions on the draft seat matrix by June 9, 2026. These must be sent to the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Bengaluru, through the method specified in the notification.

The notification also said that all objections and suggestions submitted before the deadline will be reviewed before the final seat matrix for KCET 2026 admissions is released.
