Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed takes note of ‘defamatory posters’ of Calicut University

NEW DELHI: Taking serious note of the Kerala state police for placing alleged defamatory posters of state Governor at Calicut University, Arif Mohammed Khan has called it a “breakdown of the Constitutional machinery”.

Kerala Raj Bhawan in a circular said, “Governor (Arif Mohammed) feels that this (placing for alleged defamatory posters by state police) cannot happen without the direction of the chief minister (Pinarayi Vijayan).”

Allegedly “defamatory posters and black banners” regarding the Governor were placed outside the (calicut) University guest house. The Governor is staying at the guest house, the circular said.

“Governor Arif Mohammed Khan has taken serious note of the action of the State Police, on the direction of the Chief Minister, in placing posters defamatory to the Governor in the campus of Calicut University,” the circular added.

It added that the Governor feels that this cannot happen without the direction of the chief minister and that this is clearly the beginning of the collapse of the constitutional machinery in the State. “Such deliberate actions of the chief minister precipitate the breakdown of constitutional machinery,”
