NEW DELHI: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved 100 MBBS seats for the new Konni Medical College, Pathanamthitta this academic year 2022-23. This is the second medical college in Kerala to get approval from the NMC this year.
Informing about the sanction, Kerala health minister Veena George said, “Very happy and proud as 100 MBBS seats have been approved in Konni Medical College. The classes will start from this academic year. Accurate planning and systematic operations and timely intervention by KIFBE (Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board) (will help the medical college to start classes soon).”
“This year two medical colleges, Idukki and Konni, have got sanctions for 200 new MBBS seats in total. Apart from this, two more nursing colleges are being started. Kollam Medical College and Manjeri Medical College. Its procedures have been completed,” the minister said.
In July, the NMC accorded sanction to open the Idukki Government Medical College in Kerala's high range district of Idukki with the admission of 100 MBBS students.
While announcing the Idukki Medical College’s approval, Veena George had said that "It is a great achievement that sanction has been received now for 100 seats. It was just 50 before”. The government's plan is to bring more advanced facilities at the medical college in the coming days, she had added.
