LPU grabs 78th rank in World University Ranking for Innovation 2026; 4th in India

The Lovely Professional University (LPU) has secured 78th position in the World University Ranking for Innovation (WURI) 2026, rising sharply from 109th position last year. The university has also been ranked 4th in India among Indian universities in innovation-focused education.

The WURI evaluates universities on their academic output, real world impact through innovation education, creative problem-solving, and strong community engagement, according to an official press release.

Ashok Kumar Mittal, member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and founder chancellor of LPU, stated: “The recognition reflects a larger shift in higher education where universities are increasingly being evaluated by the relevance, adaptability, and societal impact of the learning they deliver. Institutions today must move beyond conventional academic models to create ecosystems that encourage innovation, interdisciplinary thinking, ethical leadership, and problem solving aligned with real world challenges. Such global acknowledgements reinforce the importance of education systems that are both academically rigorous and deeply connected to emerging global needs.”

LPU receives recognition in student mobility, openness

Moreover, in the category specific achievements, LPU earned recognition across 15 innovation driven categories. In the financial impact driven technology transfer, the university secured 4th global rank and 1st position in India.

Followed by the 8th global rank and top position in India in University Based Entrepreneurial Projects, and the 11th global rank with the leading position in India in Funding for Sustainability.

“LPU also attained the 20th global rank and 1st in India in Ethics and Integrity, 22nd globally in Curricular Innovation for Future Readiness, 29th globally in Cost Effectiveness Management, and 32nd globally with the top position in India in University Brand and Reputation,” the press release reads.

In addition, the university was also placed 37th globally and 1st in India in crisis management, 54th globally in infrastructure and technology.

LPU also received recognition in categories including student mobility and openness, AI based teaching and learning transformation, and inclusive social innovation for the undeserved.

By making its place in the 78th global spot and 4th in India, the LPU outperformed several globally-renowned institutions including the University of California Los Angeles, Purdue University, Washington State University, University of California Santa Barbara, Imperial College London, University of Toronto, McGill University, University of Waterloo, University of British Columbia,Nanyang Technological University, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi, Indian Institute of Technology Madras.
