Macquarie University opens applications for bachelor of urban and regional planning 2027

Macquarie University has opened the application process for the Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning February 2027 intake. Applicants can apply on the official website of the university at mq.edu.au. The last date to submit the application form is January 15, 2027.

The three-year undergraduate programme will be available in both on-campus and fully online modes. The university is also offering scholarships of up to AUD 15,000 per year for qualified students. The course aimed at preparing students for careers in urban planning, sustainability and infrastructure development.

The programme has been designed to equip students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to address challenges related to housing, transport, infrastructure, environmental sustainability and community development as cities continue to grow and climate-related issues become more prominent.

Course focuses on future-ready planning skills

Richard Carter-White, Course Director, Macquarie University, said, “The places where we live, work and connect are changing rapidly. This program has been designed to prepare professionals who can thoughtfully and confidently respond to the planning challenges facing cities and regions today.”

“Through academic study, practical learning and industry engagement, students will develop skills to create sustainable, inclusive and resilient communities for the future,” he further added.

Career opportunities

Graduates can pursue careers across fields, including urban and regional planning, climate adaptation, housing, transport, infrastructure, environmental and social impact assessment, heritage conservation and sustainability. Potential employers could include government agencies, local councils, planning consultancies, property developers, environmental organizations and NGOs.

The programme places emphasis on experiential learning, requiring applicants to complete more than 150 hours of professional experience through industry and community projects. Applicants will also participate in field studies around Sydney and interact with employers through industry showcases, guest lectures and mentoring sessions.
