Maharashtra government will hold three periodic exams for students of government, private-aided schools in 2025-26 session.
The Maharashtra government has announced that the foundation test under the Periodic Assessment Test (PAT) will be held for the students of Classes 2 to 8 in government and private-aided schools from August 6 to August 8. The students will be tested in three subjects including first language, mathematics, and English.
As per a PAB meeting under Samagra Shiksha Project held in May this year, three periodic examinations namely Foundation Test, Comprehensive Assessment Test 1 and Comprehensive Assessment Test 2 will be planned for the students of Classes 2 to 8 in the academic year 2025-26.
“This test will help teachers to facilitate the teaching-learning process by verifying whether each student has achieved the expected learning outcomes for the class. These exams are not like the Class 10th and 12th board exams, so students should not be put under any extra pressure. The main purpose of the exams is to make teachers note the extent to which students have achieved the learning objectives and to motivate them to make fundamental improvements in the teaching-learning process as needed and implement an action plan,” the government said in an official statement.

The objectives of the Maharashtra PAT exam are to help enhance the learning outcomes of students in the National Achievement Survey (NAS), now PARAKH Rashtriya Sarvekshan , besides preparing an action plan for advancing students lagging behind in studies, and other goals.
