MUHS Nashik appoints GMC dean Venkat Shahubai Arjunrao Gite vice-chancellor

Maharashtra University of Health Sciences has appointed Arjunrao Gite, dean at GMC Nashik, as vice-chancellor for a term of five years, succeeding Lieutenant General Madhuri Kanitkar
The working dean of Government Medical College in Nashik, Venkat Shahubai Arjunrao Gite has been appointed as the vice-chancellor of the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik. The Governor and chancellor of the university, Jishnu Dev Verma, announced the appointment of Venkat Gite as VC for a term of five years.
He succeeds Lieutenant General Madhuri Kanitkar, whose term as VC ended in October 2025. Sanjeev Sonawane, the VC of the Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University, was holding the additional charge of MUHS.
Arjunrao Gite is a urologist and medical educator with more than 26 years of experience teaching undergraduate students and 23 years teaching postgraduates.
He earned his MBBS, MS in general surgery, DNB in urology, and MNAMS credentials, and has long been affiliated with Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) as both a UG and PG faculty member. In this role, he has mentored MCh urology students and served as an examiner for MCh and DNB exams.

According to the GMC Nashik’s official website, Arjunrao Gite is the recipient of several prestigious awards, including the International Research Vibhushan Award, Jan Seva Sadbhavana Award, and Samaj Bhushan Award. He is dedicated to accessible healthcare and empowering medical professionals.
The Governor had set up a search committee under the chairmanship of C E Eapen Christian Medical College, Vellore, to select a suitable candidate for the VC position of MUHS. The secretary to the Government, Medical Education and Drugs Department Dheeraj Kumar, and the director of ICMR-National Institute of Malaria Research Anupkumar R Anvikar were other members of the committee.
