MCC allows NEET SS 2025 round 1 candidates to resign seats without losing security deposit till August 4

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has allowed candidates allotted seats in round 1 of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Super Speciality (NEET SS) counselling 2025 to resign from their seats without losing the security deposit. The decision has been taken as a one-time relaxation under exceptional circumstances.

According to a notice issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), candidates who wish to resign their Round 1 seats can complete the process between July 31 and August 4, 2026, by approaching their allotted colleges.

Further, the notice said, "The candidates who wish to “RESIGN” their Round-1 seats allotted through MCC have been allowed to resign without forfeiture of their security deposit. This is being permitted under exceptional circumstances in the interest of the candidates and should not be treated as precedent.”

The MCC said candidates can visit their allotted institutes to submit their resignation and collect their original documents within the stipulated period.

The committee also clarified that the resignation must be generated online through the MCC portal by the concerned college authorities. It stated that any resignation accepted offline by colleges will be treated as "Null & Void".

FAIMA welcomes MCC's one-time relief

Welcoming the decision, the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) Doctors Association said the move would benefit eligible candidates.

In a post on X, FAIMA said, "FAIMA welcomes MCC's decision to permit one-time resignation of NEET SS 2025 Round-1 seats without forfeiture of the security deposit under exceptional circumstances."

The doctors' body also urged candidates to complete the resignation process within the notified schedule.

FAIMA said, "We urge all eligible candidates to complete the online resignation process within the stipulated timeline (July 31 – August 4, 2026) and request MCC to ensure the remaining counselling process proceeds smoothly and without further delay so specialist doctors can join training at the earliest."

The MCC has advised candidates to complete the online resignation process of NEET SS 2025 within the deadline, adding that the special relaxation is a one-time measure and should not be considered a precedent for future counselling rounds.

Meanwhile, the MCC is expected to release the NEET UG 2026 counselling schedule soon for over 13 lakh qualified candidates seeking admission to MBBS, BDS and other undergraduate medical courses under the All India Quota.
