NEW DELHI: The Common Entrance Test (CET) cell, Maharashtra will conduct a re-test for the 24,744 English papers in MHT CET 2025. The decision comes in the backdrop of complaints made by students regarding a mix-up in the answers due to translation errors. The MHT CET 2025 re-exam will tentatively be held between May 6 and 11.

Addressing a press conference, CET Cell Commissioner Dileep Sardesai informed that during the final MHT CET PCM 2025 exam, held on April 27, errors were reported in approximately 21 questions in the English medium question paper. The issue stemmed from problems in translating questions from Marathi to English, which led to some answers being mixed up and options getting jumbled.

A total of 24,744 English-medium candidates appeared for the MHT CET exam, along with 2,875 Marathi and 218 Urdu-medium candidates. While there were no issues in the Marathi and Urdu papers and no complaints from those students, the English medium examinees suffered from a few erroneous translations. The commissioner confirmed that AI tools were not used in the translation process.

To address the situation, authorities have decided to give another opportunity to most, if not all, English-medium students who took the entrance test in the final session.

The CET cell commissioner added that after receiving complaints of wrong questions, the authorities summoned the paper setters and asked them to verify. Upon verification, it was found that 21 questions were wrong out of 50 mathematics questions. The cell will give a notice to paper setters and blacklist them.

MHT CET 2025 PCM re-test schedule

The CET cell will announce the exam schedule for MHT CET 2025 PCM re-exam on the official website, cetcell.mahacet.org, depending on availability of the examination centres. Candidates will be informed about the exam date through chatbots, email etc. They may not get the earlier centres though, the commissioner added.

About the issue of power outage at an exam centre in Kurla, Sardesai argued, “We conduct so many tests. In such a large exercise, it's incidental. But no exam was compromised. We could have conducted a retest, but other tests would have been affected. We in fact offered lodging facility to outstation students, but they didn't want it.”
