Mission Shakti Campaign: UP govt organises self-defence training camps for over 29,000 school girls

The Uttar Pradesh government has organised self-defence training sessions for around 29,193 school girls today under the “Mission Shakti” campaign. During the sessions, women officers and motivators provided guidance to school girls on life skills, self-defence, education, and career paths.

Moreover, the UP government has also formed “Self-Defence Clubs” in 6,256 schools to provide girls with access to regular practice and training.

“Under the campaign, self-defense training sessions were organized in 6,587 schools across the state, training girls in essential techniques for their own safety,” according to an official statement.

'Self-Defence Clubs' in UP schools

Stating that the self-defence training plays an important role in boosting the self-confidence of girls, Sandeep Singh, minister of state for basic education (independent charge) expressed that the Mission Shakti campaign is aimed at empowering girls, making them safe, and self-reliant.

Monica Rani, director general of school education, said: “Self-defense training is developing self-confidence, awareness, and decision-making abilities in girls. This process is being continuously and systematically promoted through "Self-Defense Clubs."

The government's objective is to promote girls not only in the field of education, but also to empower them socially, mentally, and physically, the statement reads.
